Colin Montgomerie
Colin Montgomerie OBE is regarded as a true statesman of golf. Known affectionately as ‘Monty’, he has been one of Europe’s leading golfers over the last three decades. After turning pro in 1987, he went on to win 53 tournaments worldwide and played in eight Ryder Cup matches, captaining the victorious European Ryder Cup team at the Celtic Manor, Newport, in October 2010. Montgomerie has his own charitable foundation, The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation, founded in memory of his mother, which has raised over £5m for two Maggie’s Centres, in Aberdeen and Lanarkshire. In May 2013, he was inducted into The World Golf Hall of Fame.
