George Davies
Fashion visionary and serial entrepreneur George Davies has been described as ‘the king of the high street’. Following university, he joined Littlewoods in 1962 to train in the retail industry and went on to transform fashion retail: in 1982, he launched the giant retail chain Next; in 1990, he launched ‘George at Asda’, bringing clothing off the high street and into supermarkets; and in 2001, he launched the fashion label Per Una, initially available at Marks and Spencer. His current brand GWD trades in the Middle East and the UK. The GWD Charitable Trust supports areas such as diabetes, children in Sri Lanka and many other worthy causes worldwide.
